Under Malaysian Law – ATOMIC ENERGY LICENSING ACT 1984, ATOMIC ENERGY LICENSING (BASIC SAFETY RADIATION PROTECTION) REGULATIONS 2010, PU (A) 46: Section Employment of radiation protection officer and qualified expert (Consultant).
Section 16. (1) The licensee shall employ a radiation protection officer. (2) Notwithstanding subregulation (1), the licensee may employ a qualified expert as approved by the appropriate authority to carry out the duties of a radiation protection officer.
Employers intending to purchase, import, store, rent or disposing an X-ray machine or equipment containing radioactive materials, or requiring the replacement of a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), are required to engage a qualified Radiation Protection Consultant (RPC) to assist with the relevant radiation licensing and regulatory compliance requirements.
